The Hidden Ways Alcohol Affects Your Mood & Health

Tuesday 25th November | Live on Zoom | 7-8pm

FREE MASTERCLASS

Discover what alcohol really does to your body and mind, and why understanding it can change everything.

Most of us know alcohol can cause a hangover — but few realise how quietly it can shape our sleep, hormones, and mood, or how far its effects reach throughout the body.

In this live 60-minute masterclass, Professor Charles Knowles, surgeon and author of Why We Drink Too Much – The Hidden Science of “Just One More”, joins Life Coach Annie Knowles for an engaging, myth-busting session that explores what’s really going on inside — and how our bodies start to recover the moment alcohol levels fall.

This isn’t about scare tactics or guilt. It’s about knowledge, awareness, and choice — understanding the science so you can make decisions that support your long-term wellbeing.

After a brief introduction recapping on why we like to drink, together we’ll explore:

1. Why we like to drink

A quick look at why alcohol feels relaxing or sociable — and what’s really happening in the brain.

2. Acute effects

What happens in the short term: balance, hydration, sleep, and recovery.

3. Longer-term impacts

How alcohol can subtly influence the heart, digestion, hormones, and immune system, plus how the body begins to heal when we give it a rest.

4. Mood & mental health

The connection between alcohol, stress, anxiety, focus, and low mood — and how our brain chemistry naturally rebalances.

5. Your next steps

Practical ways to apply what you’ve learned — whether you’re cutting down, taking a break, or simply curious about feeling better.

In this free masterclass, you’ll learn:

  • A clear understanding of alcohol’s effects on physical and mental health

  • Practical, science-based ways to protect and support your body

  • Fresh motivation to make empowered, sustainable choices

  • A chance to ask your own questions in a supportive, non-judgemental space

🔒 Your email is safe with us. We’ll only send you masterclass details and wellbeing resources if you opt in.

About Your Hosts

Meet Annie and Charles Knowles — a husband and wife team who’ve walked their own very different paths to the same powerful truth- when it comes to alcohol, the story we’ve been sold isn’t the full picture.

Charles is a Professor of Surgery and Clinical Director of Research at Cleveland Clinic London. After decades of working in high-pressure environments and quietly struggling with his own relationship with alcohol, he decided to explore the science behind drinking - and what really drives it. That journey became personal and professional, ultimately leading him to write Why We Drink Too Much, a book that combines the latest research with real-life insight.

Annie is an accredited sobriety and life coach, with a background in NHS health education and wellbeing. After going alcohol-free in 2021, she’s helped many women - across sobriety communities and especially those in healthcare and emergency services - take a break from drinking, rediscover balance, and reclaim their confidence. Her coaching blends lived experience, holistic, trauma-informed tools, and gentle accountability.

Together, they’re passionate about helping people feel more empowered, informed, and less alone.
This masterclass is a chance to press pause, get curious, and hear what the science (and real life) has to say — without pressure, shame, or labels.

We Look Forward To Meeting You!
