Understand why wine has become your way to switch off, why moderation keeps taking so much effort, and how a proper break could help you regain choice.

Why Do I Keep Reaching for Wine?

For women who are ready to rethink their relationship with wine.

You may have told yourself:

“I’ll only drink at weekends.”

“I’ll have alcohol-free weekdays.”

“I’ll stop after one glass.”

Then the day becomes long, stressful or emotionally demanding. You reach for wine, and afterwards you wonder why it feels so difficult to do what you had planned.

If you are tired of making rules about drinking, breaking them and starting again, this workshop is for you.

You can be doing well and still dislike your relationship with wine

You may be successful at work, dependable to the people around you and perfectly capable of managing your responsibilities.

From the outside, everything may look fine.

But wine has become the thing you look forward to at the end of the day. You may think about it before work has finished, use it to reward yourself or rely on it to help you move from work into the evening.

You may already notice the effect on your sleep, mood, energy or mornings.

You may have taken breaks before. You managed for a few days or weeks, then gradually returned to the same pattern.

You know you would feel better without alcohol taking up so much space. You simply have not found an approach that lasts.

By the end of the session, you’ll understand:

  • Why wanting to stop drinking and still wanting wine can both be true

  • What may be happening when wine becomes your quickest route to relief

  • Why moderation rules become difficult to maintain when you are tired, stressed or emotionally stretched

  • How repeatedly deciding whether to drink keeps alcohol in your thoughts

  • Why a short break may not be enough to change the pattern

  • What a meaningful alcohol-free break can help you learn about your habits, mood and daily life

You’ll also complete a simple exercise to identify what you believe wine is giving you and what you may need instead.

You’ll leave with a clearer picture of what keeps pulling you back and a practical way to think about your next step.

This workshop may be right for you if you:

  • Reach for wine to relax, reward yourself or mark the end of the day

  • Think about drinking more often than you would like

  • Set rules about alcohol, then find yourself changing them

  • Can stop for a while but eventually return to drinking

  • Wake during the night feeling restless, anxious or disappointed

  • Feel uncomfortable about the amount of mental space alcohol occupies

  • Are curious about an alcohol-free life, even if you are not ready to make a lifelong decision

You do not need to describe yourself as having an alcohol problem.

You do not need to wait until your drinking becomes more serious.

You only need to recognise that your current relationship with wine is no longer working for you.

This workshop provides coaching and education and does not replace medical advice. If you think you may be physically dependent on alcohol or experience withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking, speak to your GP or an alcohol support service before making changes.

Meet Annie

For years, I saw my evening wine as an ordinary way to switch off after work.

After 33 years in the NHS, I was used to being responsible, staying calm and getting on with things. My life looked successful and well managed, but I began to question why I needed alcohol to relax and why it occupied so much of my thinking.

My last drink was on 28 December 2021.

I now help women understand and change their relationship with alcohol through coaching, behaviour-change principles and practical support.

My approach combines my own experience of becoming alcohol-free with my coaching work and 33 years of NHS experience. I understand the wish to change, as well as the reasons the old pattern can keep returning.

You do not have to wait for a crisis

Many women put off making a change because their drinking does not seem serious enough.

They are still working, caring for other people, exercising, socialising and meeting their responsibilities.

But wanting better sleep, calmer mornings, more energy and freedom from thinking about alcohol is reason enough.

Join me live on 18 August to understand your relationship with wine from a different perspective and explore what a meaningful break could make possible.
